Volunteer Literacy Tutors Needed
Salt Lake County’s CAT Program (Community Access to Technology) is currently recruiting Volunteer Literacy Tutors for their free Literacy Program at Northwest CAT Lab. Salt Lake County CAT operates free computer labs for the public, at four locations in the Valley:
Northwest CAT Lab 1300 W 300 N, SLC 801-793-8737
Central City CAT Lab 615 S 300 E, SLC 801-559-1563
Redwood CAT Lab 3100 S Redwood Road, SLC
801-618-8419
Copperview CAT Lab 8446 S Harrison St., Midvale
801-559-1506
The program is offered Mondays/Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The time commitment would be 1-2 hours, twice a week, for 10 weeks. Tutors would spend 20-25 minutes reading with a child, and 20-25 minutes helping them with computerized learning games during each session.
At the close of each 10-week session, the kids, families and tutors attend a special graduation event. Each child receives a completion certificate, is invited to address the crowd, and given literacy-related gifts, etc. Games and refreshments complete the evening.
Interested? Roger Ranney, CAT Program Manager, can be contacted at rranney@slco.org, or by calling 801-455-8268. Support your community, volunteer!
