 Tuesday, May 6, The City Council will consider approving and authorizing the interlocal agreement with UTA regarding the TRAX line to the airport.  They will receive a briefing during the work session that begins at 3:00 pm.  In their regular meeting which begins at 7:00 pm, they will consider approving and authorizing the interlocal agreement.  You can often find a wealth of information on issues at the City Council website.  For details on this issue, go to http://www.slcgov.com/council/agendas/#May and click on “Item A2F8 Interlocal agmt with UTA TRAX line to airport” under the May 6 meeting.  There you will find out about the 400 vs. 600 West alignment options, answers to many questions the City Council members have posed, and a variety of other details.In the 7:00 pm meeting, the City Council will also hear from Mayor Ralph Becker on his proposed budget for this next fiscal year.

Yearbooks Still Available

Don’t miss out on your very own Newman Elementary Yearbook. Copies are still available for $10 . Preview a copy at the library or at the front office.

Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels

Please send in Box Tops or Campbell’s labels as soon as possible. The PTA is going to mail all labels before June 1^st. We have a collection bin in the main hallway. Box Top labels are only good if the expiration date is included. Campbell’s labels (the UPC code) is now clearly marked. Thank you for your support and don’t forget to save them during the summer!

Kindergarten Registration

Registration/Parent Orientation for next year’s kindergarten students will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 2:45 p.m. Parents should bring a copy of the birth certificate and immunization records. Children must be 5 years old on/by September 1, 2008.

Please pass this information on to your neighbors who have children ready to start kindergarten but do not have children currently attending Newman.

Help Needed!

Our School Community Council (SCC) and PTA need parents to serve in these organizations to help make decisions that impact your students. PTA participants meet once each month to help plan events and programs to support the school. If you are interested in participating in the PTA, please contact Brenda Wall, 596-8208.

Parents who express an interest in serving on the SCC may contact Mr. Ruesch, 578-8537 or Mrs. Kristina Bailey, 595-0572. Those interested will then be voted upon on May 28 at 4:00 p.m. during the final SCC meeting of the school year.
