Housing inventory in the 84116 Zip Code include 97 properties currently for sale, 29 of those under contract with buyers as of 4/15/2008.

Overall, prices have stabilized, foreclosures are much fewer, and demand for home-buying is back up significantly over the previous few months.

Hazardous Waste Collection

On the fourth Thursday of the month, April through September, 7-10 am , the Salt Lake Valley Health Department  will be holding a household hazardous waste community collection at Sugarhouse Park, by the Garden Center, 2100S 1602 E.  (NE corner of the park, West of Highland HS) As usual, the event will accept waste from your home, including but not limited to waste oil, gas, antifreeze, pesticides, transmission fluid, batteries, fluorescent light tubes, and paint.  There is no charge for you to have these and other chemicals properly dispose of at the event.

In addition, this year our police department will be at the event to collect any prescription drugs that you need to get out of your medicine chest.  You may bring in any over the counter or prescription medications you no longer need for proper disposal.

Update: The fourth Thursday in July is a holiday.  There will no be an event that day, so as a consequence there will not be a collection in Salt Lake City in July.

Item 6 Crime Report

Each month the Salt Lake City Police department prepares a report of all Community Council areas. You can locate this report on the Salt Lake City Police web site by going to: slcgov.com/police/crimestats/crimestatshome.htm

During March 2008 the overall count of reported crimes for our community went up by 9 incidents. Specifically it went down for auto thefts to 6 (this includes 3 cars that were found in are area but necessarily stolen from it), burglary went from 4 to 14, damaged property reports went from 10 to 21. This number includes damage to businesses, homes, cars and graffiti damage. Other areas may have dropped or added one or two reported incidents.

We watch these reports and take note of the areas where they are occurring. You can do the same by coming to our meetings and getting a copy of these reports or by going on line. It is important to stay current on the things happening in our area and to be watchful in your neighborhoods. More information will be coming to you shortly on how to be more involved in our community crime prevention through our Neighborhood Watch program and Mobil Watch. Attend our May Community Council meeting and learn about Lock Bumping.
