Salt Lake County has recently published a draft of our Water Quality Stewardship Plan (WaQSP). This draft is two years in the making and examines issues from wastewater planning and stormwater runoff, to instream flows and aquatic habitat. Additionally, the WaQSP will serve as an update to the existing Area-Wide Water Quality Management Plan. In order to get feedback on the WaQSP, specifically the recommendations that are made in the WaQSP, we have been taking the show on the road. The entire WaQSP document is available on our website at www.waterresources.slco.org. Additionally, copies of the WaQSP are available at all County libraries and at the Main Salt Lake City Library. See all of you in April at your next Community Council meeting.

The theme of our second annual conference’s theme, “A Tradition of Sustainability,” focuses on how rehabilitating historic buildings also can help preserve our environment. Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, County Mayor Peter Corroon, Utah architect Hank Louis, are among our other featured speakers. On Saturday, April 19, “Architecture’s Tradition: The Avenues Homes Tour” highlights the diversity of architectural styles built from the pioneer era through the 1950s.

Item 6 Crime Report

Each month the Salt Lake City Police department prepares a report of all Community Council areas. You can locate this report on the Salt Lake City Police web site by going to: slcgov.com/police/crimestats/crimestatshome.htm

During February 2008 the overall count of reported crimes for our community went down by 12 incidents. Specifically it remained unchanged at 13 auto thefts (this includes 7 cars that were found in are area but necessarily stolen from it), burglary went from 8 to 4, damaged property reports went from 16 to 10. Other areas may have dropped or added one or two reported incidents. Of the 26 Councils we are #14 on the list from least to most reports.

We watch these reports and take note of the areas where they are occurring. You can do the same by coming to our meetings and getting a copy of these reports or by going on line. It is important to stay current on the things happening in our area and to be watchful in your neighborhoods. More information will be coming to you shortly on how to be more involved in our community crime prevention through our Neighborhood Watch program and Mobil Watch.
