Earthquake — Did You Feel It?

On Friday, March 7, 2008 at 4:21 am,  a 2.5 magnitude earthquake hit somewhere between Bountiful and Salt Lake City.  The type of earthquake that it was and its low magnitude resulted in very minimal damage anywhere, but many people were jolted by it.

If you felt it, (or even if you didn’t) earthquake researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey would love to hear from you!  While the technological devices to map and measure earthquakes is austoundingly accurate and sensitive, researchers are also wanting to better understand the human side of quakes by plotting how people in the earthquake observed it (or didn’t).

Why report it even if you didn’t feel it?  Because researchers want a true representation of how the population in general perceives earthquakes to make the “Community Internet Intensity Maps” more accurate.
