Salt Lake County has recently published a draft of our Water Quality Stewardship Plan (WaQSP). This draft is two years in the making and examines issues from wastewater planning and stormwater runoff, to instream flows and aquatic habitat. Additionally, the WaQSP will serve as an update to the existing Area-Wide Water Quality Management Plan. In order to get feedback on the WaQSP, specifically the recommendations that are made in the WaQSP, we have been taking the show on the road. The entire WaQSP document is available on our website at www.waterresources.slco.org. Additionally, copies of the WaQSP are available at all County libraries and at the Main Salt Lake City Library. Item 6 Crime Report

Each month the Salt Lake City Police department prepares a report of all Community Council areas. You can locate this report on the Salt Lake City Police web site by going to: slcgov.com/police/crimestats/crimestatshome.htm

During February 2008 the overall count of reported crimes for our community went down by 12 incidents. Specifically it remained unchanged at 13 auto thefts (this includes 7 cars that were found in are area but necessarily stolen from it), burglary went from 8 to 4, damaged property reports went from 16 to 10. Other areas may have dropped or added one or two reported incidents. Of the 26 Councils we are #14 on the list from least to most reports.

We watch these reports and take note of the areas where they are occurring. You can do the same by coming to our meetings and getting a copy of these reports or by going on line. It is important to stay current on the things happening in our area and to be watchful in your neighborhoods. More information will be coming to you shortly on how to be more involved in our community crime prevention through our Neighborhood Watch program and Mobil Watch.

Guidelines for Patio Fire Places

- The fire place must be build to UL (Underwriters Laboratories) standards.- For fires that are less than 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall:        - The fire must be 25 feet from a structure or combustible material.        - The fire must be constantly attended.        - There must be extinguishing equipment (e.g., extinguisher, dirt, water, etc.) readily available.- For fires larger than that or used in unique ways such as pit roasting a pig or building a sweat lodge, call the Fire Prevent Bureau (799-4150) for options.

Call the Fire Prevention Bureau (799-4150) with any questions or concerns.

Earthquake — Did You Feel It?

On Friday, March 7, 2008 at 4:21 am,  a 2.5 magnitude earthquake hit somewhere between Bountiful and Salt Lake City.  The type of earthquake that it was and its low magnitude resulted in very minimal damage anywhere, but many people were jolted by it.

If you felt it, (or even if you didn’t) earthquake researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey would love to hear from you!  While the technological devices to map and measure earthquakes is austoundingly accurate and sensitive, researchers are also wanting to better understand the human side of quakes by plotting how people in the earthquake observed it (or didn’t).

Why report it even if you didn’t feel it?  Because researchers want a true representation of how the population in general perceives earthquakes to make the “Community Internet Intensity Maps” more accurate.
