INFORMATION ITEMS

Item 1

The Third Annual Rose Park Festival will be held on the grounds of the Rose Park Elementary School on Saturday, April 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be great displays, arts & crafts for children, free cultural entertainment, and food available for purchase. There is no entry fee. All residents of this area are cordially invited, plus friends and relatives.
We are in need of volunteers to act as guides and assist with the children’s activities. All volunteers will receive a free Rose Park tee shirt. Please call Rosemary Bennett (595-0065).
Item 2
Chief Burbank has reorganized the SLCPD with what he calls the CAT Fusion Center. He stated that the new group has already outperformed in three months all of the old CAT team’s work for the previous year. He based this on the fact that in the past there had been a lot of territorialism between different departments. Some have been working on the same problems but not communicating with each other.
It resulted in many of the same complaints resurfacing time and time again and few solutions being reached. From now on all complaints will go through the Fusion Center and be tracked to resolution. The center has 8 sergeants and 45 officers but the entire police force will be at their disposal when needed. Our point of contact in the Fusion Center will be Mike Hatch. His desk phone is 799-3309 and his cell is 330-3020.
The Chief feels that this will place more officers on the street and a markedly decreased time in responding to calls. The emphasis on the whole process is to be a proactive one rather than trying to solve the same old complaints with little or no results. He is in the process of hiring and training 48 new officers but will still be short of his authorized staff.
Item 3
The crime report for last month showed that there were 7 auto
thefts; 10 burglaries; 3 car strips; 2 gang related crimes; 4 car prowls; 1
robbery; 1 aggravated assault; 1 sexual assault; and 1 weapons drive-by.
Item 4
The Community Garden needs your help on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Harvesting of crops will begin in 2 or 3 weeks. Those who help will receive a share of the harvest. The garden is located on Cornell Street between 800 and 900 North on the west side of the street. Look for the fenced in garden. It has four gates in the fence.
