Item 1: The Mayor’s office announced that Southwest Airlines is going to award 2 free tickets to anywhere in the world. The award is based on an essay contest for Senior Citizens
Item 2: Roy Williams, Airport Director, gave an update on the airport. There are 108 departing flights per day and the city collects $3 for each departing passenger. The airport also controls Airport #2 and the Tooele Airport.
Item 3: The Chair of the East Bench Community Council stated that the first time a child is exposed to pornography is at age 8 and the first time a child is exposed to it on the internet is at age 11. An anti-pornography conference will be conducted on September 28th. Watch the city website for more information.
Item 4: Elliot Brinton, chair of the Sunnyside East Council, is concerned about the relocation of the Museum of Natural History to a site that straddles the Shore Line Trail. He also stated that it is proposed to allow commercial development, including a reception center, on 15-20 acres on Heritage Park. There will be an open space bonding item on the next ballot.
Item 5: Crime report for August showed 1 aggravated assault; 16 autos stolen or recovered;13 burglaries;8 car prowls;2 car strips; 2 gang related crimes;and 2 weapon drivby shootings. This placed us 10th out of 13 council areas.
